The 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLS will be the third generation of the CLS, continuing with the model’s “four-door coupe” styling. And while we’ve come to expect that shape by now, what’s under the hood is very special. The first two generations of CLS seemed more taut and lithe than their E-class brethren, but this new model comes off as a serious slice of machinery, looming just as large as its more staid sibling. Flat, wide headlamps slant inward from the grille. Onto the sides, the new CLS retains the high, arching waistline, already a trademark feature for the four-door coupe. A pronounced, smooth rear fender line gently arcs up from the outermost corner of the taillight into the driver’s door, while the rear of the greenhouse sweeps inward. The same goes for the muscular rear haunches that blend smoothly into the flat rear end.
