2020 Mercedes-Benz CLS is a pretty cars. The Mercedes-Benz CLS was a shocking style icon for an otherwise-reserved company. The 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLS will be the third generation of the CLS, continuing with the model’s “four-door coupe” styling. And while we’ve come to expect that shape by now, what’s under the hood is very special. The first two generations of CLS seemed more taut and lithe than their E-class brethren, but this new model comes off as a serious slice of machinery, looming just as large as its more staid sibling. If you prefer to get all Euro and fancy about it, a comparison to the Rolls-Royce Wraith could be made.
2020 Mercedes-Benz CLS Exterior and Interior Design
The new CLS features a new exterior design and new suspension technologies. Although the cars we rode in were still lightly camouflaged, there was no hiding the slab-sided nature of the latest version. The signature single-louvre, diamond grille that marks a Mercedes starts the exterior design. The engine hood is a brand-new design that’s completely surrounded by body surfaces. Flat, wide headlamps slant inward from the grille. Onto the sides, the new CLS retains the high, arching waistline, already a trademark feature for the four-door coupe. A pronounced, smooth rear fender line gently arcs up from the outermost corner of the taillight into the driver’s door, while the rear of the greenhouse sweeps inward. The same goes for the muscular rear haunches that blend smoothly into the flat rear end.
The interior is elegant and refined, as you would expect of a Mercedes. Leather and wood grains abound. The CLS features a dashboard not unlike that in the automaker’s S-Class flagship lineup. Features highlights include a standard 12.3 inch central touch screen with the option of a screen double the size and dominating the cockpit. Occupants are further pampered with programs that simultaneously adjust climate controls, seats, the steering wheel, lights, and music tailored to different pre-set moods. This digital cockpit is driver configurable under three headings: Classic, Sport, or Progressive. 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLS will have improved cameras and radar, and it will make use of maps and navigation data to calculate driving behavior, Mercedes says.
2020 Mercedes-Benz CLS Release Date and Price
The vehicle will enter the market in 2019 as a 2020 model. The 2020 CLS goes on sale in the fall of 2019. Pricing for the new-generation CLS has yet to be revealed, but it’s safe to assume that it should remain similar to the outgoing model. The current versions range from $74,850 for a base CLS to $108,900 for a top of the line CLS65S.
2020 Mercedes-Benz CLS Powertrain and Performance
Under the hood, the third-generation Mercedes-Benz CLS sports a completely new in-line six-cylinder engine. The standard powertrain should be Mercedes’ new turbocharged 3.0 liter inline 6. The powertrain produces an exhilarating 362 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Above this is expected to sit a new Mercedes-AMG CLS53 also packing an inline 6 albeit with a high-powered electric motor to boost output to V8-like levels. It means the choice of rear or all wheel drive, a standard 9 speed automatic, and plug-in hybrid capability. A top 0-60 MPH acceleration speed of 4.8 seconds will be owned 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLS.
