Now that the 2019 Audi R8 is out in the open. Nine years after the introduction of the first Audi R8, Audi has launched the second generation R8. No model with the four rings is closer to motorsport, none is more striking and more dynamic. It’s lighter, faster, stiffer and more powerful than ever before. Yet at the same time it’s also more efficient and more economical, featuring one of the best cabins of any sports car, at any price. Shame it isn’t a touch more analogue in its responses, especially in the way it steers with the new Dynamic steering system fitted.
2019 Audi R8 Exterior and Interior Design
The new R8’s looks are an evolution of the stunning first-generation model, with sharper lines at every angle and the colour contrasting side blade design now a two piece job in place of the solid slab down the flank. It has the low slung stance of a supercar, with the cab pushed forward and the coupe body sloping back in a continuous arch to the rear spoiler. A visual distinguishing feature which also provides enhanced safety comes in the form of the standard LED headlights. For an extended field of vision and more brightness, Audi offers the laser spot for the high beam as an option complemented by the dynamic turn signals at the front. Dynamic turn signals are standard at the rear.
Interior changes are more obvious and appreciated. The virtual cockpit, as Audi calls it, can be configured in numerous ways. The quilted headlining and seats look and feel premium, as does the aircon switchgear with in dial rotary buttons and tap to activate toggle switches. Features a streamlined dashboard layout that moves all of the information displays to one pod where a traditional gauge cluster would normally be located. One of the best, we thought while strafing the countryside around the Algarve, was a wide screen navigational view that provided an excellent idea of upcoming corners complete with satnav overlaid on a cinematic quality Google Earth view and untold configurable options.
2019 Audi R8 Release Date and Price
The coming in the 2019 Audi R8 is expected within the review length of the next 50% of 2018, however as the 2019 season show. Maybe 2019 Audi R8 goes on sale next summer. If 2019 Audi R8 ever receives V6 treatment, we can expect it to cost much less than £120,000 V10 model. But as a benchmark price we will give a fixed price.
2019 Audi R8 Powertrain and Performance
Possibility the new R8 is available with a V6 engine. The V10 will not make a comeback in this generation R8. At present, the second-generation R8’s base level 5.2 litre V10 is capable of delivering 540 hp and 540Nm of torque. The more powerful V10 Plus version has 610 h/560Nm to its name. Rumours have previously circulated that Audi would use the turbocharged V6 2.5 liter five cylinder from the TT RS for a new entry-level R8. As far as transmissions go, the new V6 R8 will be offered with the same seven-speed dual-clutch unit that’s used in the V10 models. Drive will go to all four wheels via a rear-biased all-wheel drive system. The seven speed dual clutch transmission is an all new unit. The sprint from 0-100 km/h can be done in 3.5 and 3.2 seconds for the new 2019 Audi R8.
