The 2019 BMW Z4 Roadster is a two-seat hardtop convertible that provides a blend of luxury, style and the expected precision BMW handling dynamics. Despite being one of the oldest designs in the BMW catalog, the Z4 has aged well since its 2009 redesign. Updates have been few since 2016. The upscale Z4, with its retractable hardtop roof, lands more or less squarely in the middle of the roadster continuum, which ranges from nimble but cramped traditional sports cars to larger, grand touring drop tops with big engines and big price tags.
2019 BMW Z4 Roadster Exterior and Interior Design
The hardtop on a 2019 Z4 goes a long way toward making the car look beautiful. The top doesn’t distract from the classic proportions of this roadster, a long hood, short trunk, muscular fenders, all fronted by that signature BMW grille. The side sills are more aggressive while the front fenders are now sporting gills that are meant to make the cars more efficient. Round the back, the taillights have been changed with one featuring the LED L-Shape we’ve been seeing on every car launched after the F15 X5. While the rear bumper received a hardcore, carbon fiber diffuser that hosts two exhaust tail pipes. The three different models are distinguished by badges and slightly different noses, with the chrome grille on the 6 cylinder models the clearest difference.
Inside, the BMW Z4 Roadster cabin is well-appointed with typically BMW quality in materials and layout. The retractable hardtop roof gives the Z4 almost coupe levels of quietness and insulation from the elements. It has a modern sophisticated look to it and is more like a cockpit than anything else in fact, making the cabin be more like a sportster or a racer than anything else. There are some high end trim materials added which updated the design and the image of the dash and add certain new elements to it. iDrive system sleek control layout on the other hand manages to smooth things a bit and bring balance to this stack of controls, but we feel that this is something that can be changed for the future models.
