2018 Buick Regal has been one of the kept secrets of the year. The rumored arrival of a Regal Sportback and Wagon on our shores would have been enough to get our attention. Although GM hasn’t released official details on the new 2018 Buick Regal, don’t be surprised if the new model was previewed by the redesigned 2018 Opel Insignia. As before, Buick’s new mid-size Regal will be little more than a European-market Opel Insignia wearing the Buick insignia. The new Insignia/Regal looks to move further upscale to pull even closer to the Audi A4. The all-new 2018 Buick Regal will delivers athletic elegance and luxury with an exhilarating drive and surprising versatility.
2018 Buick Regal Exterior and Interior Design
There are going to be a lot of differences in both 2018 Buick Regal models. The Regal Sportback soaks up bumps fairly well, though the car felt light going over some larger bumps on GM’s handling course. The sportier bumper hosts a pair of large air vents while above resides the modified grille with a mesh pattern as opposed to the vertical fins of the standard Regal and the Tourx wagon. The new Regal also use same E2XX platform underneath the latest Chevrolet Malibu. Some available goodies worth adding are LED headlights and a head-up display. It also gets a pair of chunkier side skirts and large black alloy wheels backed by contrasting red Brembo brake calipers.
The interior design is going to see some improvements all aimed at making it look more sophisticated and classy. The Regal will be cleaner than before, with uncluttered surfaces and a driver-centric center console angle. The steering wheel with perforated leather appears to be a tad different than what the other Regal models have, while the red stitching and the sporty pedals will probably be reserved. The seats are also heated and ventilated and come standard with a massage function. And, of course, excellent infotainment system and a well-outlined dashboard are other expected improvements. It will also feature OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi, 7 inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and more.
2018 Buick Regal Release Date and Price
GM expects to have the 2018 Buick Regal in showrooms sometime in late this year. As for the price, although accurate information is yet to be released by GM, we can make some smart approximations. In the same price bracket as the current Regal, which ranges between just under $30,000 up to a bit over $40,000.
2018 Buick Regal Powertrain and Performance
Engine options and performance of this car are also bound to come in an improved version. The Regal may come standard with the Malibu’s 163 hp, turbocharged 1.5 liter inline-four, paired with an automatic transmission to drive the front wheels. Much more enticing is the idea of a use a 2.0 liter turbocharged 4 cylinder engine which will be mated with the new 9 speed auto transmission from GM. This engine is anticipated to yield up to 250 horsepower and 260 lb ft torque. We’re sad to say that a manual-transmission version or stick-shift option is dispensed. That is subject to debate and for that reason, we choose to wait and see 2018 Buick Regal release.
